How BuyCheck AI ranks suggestions
Last updated May 19, 2026.
BuyCheck AI is an AI-powered shopping assistant operated by Sonare LLC. The Federal Trade Commission’s guidance on AI in commerce and the EU Digital Services Act both require platforms that recommend products to explain how their recommendations work. This page is that explanation, written in plain English.
Signals we use to rank suggestions
When you ask for a gift or check a product, our AI ranks options based on a small number of measurable signals. In order of importance:
- Fit— how well the suggestion matches the recipient, occasion, interests, budget, and must-have requirements you provided. This is the largest factor.
- Return or cancellation policy— we prefer products with a documented 30+ day return window and experiences with a documented cancellation policy of 7+ days. We maintain a registry of retailer policies and surface this directly on each card.
- Rating and review volume— when available from the retailer’s page, average star rating and the number of reviews factor into our confidence in a product.
- Price vs. typical— we compare the current asking price against the typical price for the product where historical pricing data is available. This is the “Deal” score on a verdict.
- Seller trust— we prefer first-party retailers (Amazon, Best Buy, brand-direct) over marketplace third-party sellers. Marketplace items get a “policy varies by seller” flag.
Signals we do NOT use
These are intentional. The signals below are explicitly excluded from our ranking, because including them would compromise the trust that makes the product useful.
- Affiliate commission rate. If two retailers both stock the same product, we do not prefer the one that pays us a higher commission. We use symmetric rates within each product category (described below) precisely so that this cannot influence ranking.
- Sponsored placement. We do not accept payment to surface or rank specific products. There is no “promoted results” tier in BuyCheck AI.
- Personal advertising profile. We do not build a behavioral advertising profile of you and do not sell information about your searches.
Affiliate disclosure
When you click through to a retailer from BuyCheck AI and make a purchase, we may receive a small affiliate commission. This is how the product is funded. We have affiliate relationships in the following categories:
| Category | Networks / retailers | Typical rate |
|---|---|---|
| General retail | Amazon Associates, Skimlinks, Sovrn Commerce | 1–4% |
| Experiences | Tinggly, Cloud 9 Living, Virgin Experience Days, GetYourGuide, MasterClass | 5–15% |
| Books | Bookshop.org, Barnes & Noble, Amazon Associates | 4–10% |
Within each category we use symmetric rates— we don’t boost retailers that pay us more inside the same category. The retailers listed above are the only sources of revenue for BuyCheck AI; there is no other paid placement, sponsorship, or data-licensing arrangement that affects rankings.
When this list changes (because we add or drop a network) we will update this page and the “Last updated” date at the top.
AI limitations
Every suggestion and verdict on BuyCheck AI is generated by an AI model (currently from Anthropic). AI models can be wrong. We ground the model in real product data (live retailer prices, real return policies, real review counts) and we never let the model invent facts about your purchase. But the model’s judgment calls — what counts as a “good” gift, what interests are compatible, whether a price is fair — are inherently subjective and can be wrong for your situation.
You should treat BuyCheck AI’s output as a starting point for your own decision, not a definitive recommendation. Always verify pricing, availability, and return/cancellation policies on the retailer’s site before purchasing.
How to report a problem
If you believe a specific recommendation is biased, inaccurate, or harmful, please tell us. Use the “Did this meet your need?” probe after any result, or email support@buycheckai.com. We treat feedback as an input to model improvement, not as spam.
